Why partner with The Open University (OU) over other providers?
The Open University is ranked fifth in the UK for the quality of its teaching and first or second in the UK (over the last five years) for student satisfaction. It promotes educational opportunity and social justice by providing a high-quality university education through innovative teaching methods.
What materials can I use?
Normally you can use all Open University course materials but we will check that for you on a case by case basis.
What support can you give me?
The Open University can offer a range of consultancy services to assist you in setting up programmes, including subject-based expertise, workshops on distance learning and even possible adaptation of materials to suit your market.
Is it financially viable for our institution?
World leading Open University materials are very cost-effective. You can use materials efficiently within your institution, saving a lot of valuable time and resources in the form of course development costs. If you wish to partner with us to present Open University degrees, we will need to work through the costs with you as viability will depend on student numbers.
Can we translate the materials?
You may be able to translate Open University materials if you sign a translation agreement. The Open University will retain the copyright of translated materials. Translation may not be available for some partnership models.
Do we need consultancy/tutor training?
We would strongly recommend that you have your tutors trained in our teaching methodology of Supported Open Learning as well as training on teaching particular courses on specific subjects. If your aim is to offer an Open University award this is mandatory.
How long would tutor training be for?
Tutor training in distance teaching methodology usually lasts for about three days. Additional tutor training would be specific to the courses you are using.
How long does it take to set up?
Licensing partnerships can be set up relatively quickly so long as there is a business plan.
